UN says Nigeria cannot fight Boko Haram alone

2015-01-29 17:08
Lagos- With Boko Haram threatening to continue to attack, the UN has declared that Nigeria is not fit enough to stop the Islamic group on its own, reports Naij.

The United Nations (UN) envoy, Hiroute Sellassie, stated that Nigeria should accept the fact that they cannot stop Boko Haram alone. This is a comment that comes after the Nigeria government has given an interdict to the UN as well as the African Union (AU) to help stop the insurgencies.

The Nigeria government stated that they would handle the attacks without any help. Moreover, the latest development has shown that the presidency has welcomed international help, and stated that it is important for multinational forcegets support required to fight the threats through global partners.

About 13,000 people have been killed at the hands of the Islamic militants and about more than one million homeless since 2009.
