Anambra - The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) says knocking
down its marshals, volunteers and collaborators on the line of duty
will now attract sanctions.
Its Corps Marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi,
said in Onitsha, Anambra, on Friday that marshals, volunteers and
collaborators were important to its operation.
"What they are doing is a free public service to the nation”.
"Knock
down my men, I will push you and I want you to be charged to court. And
I will make sure I press for the maximum charges to jail you", he said.
The
commission has the mandate to prosecute drivers knocking down its
personnel or volunteers ensuring safety on the nation’s roads.
Oyeyemi
gave the indication in view of the threats posed by convoys and
motorists to FRSC marshals, volunteers and collaborators during the
yuletide special patrols.
The corps marshal said that the special patrols would end on Tuesday.
Officials
of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), State Emergency
Management Agency (SEMA), Safety Chapol, Peace Corps and state
government traffic agencies participated in the exercise as
collaborators .
