Asaba - Venerable Felix Okonkwo, a cleric of the Anglican Communion
in Delta State, on Sunday got a N10 million donation for his church
after calling the All Progressives Congress (APC) an Islamic party,
reports NewsDay.
Okonkwo,
who is the Vicar-in-Charge of St. Phillips Anglican Church, Asaba,
described the APC as a party formed to promote and propagate the ideas
of Islamism.
Okonkwo, who sated this during a special
thanksgiving service in honour of Ifeanyi Okowa, the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP)governorship candidate in the state, noted that the APC was
out to kill people and destroy Nigeria.
The cleric urged the
congregation, which included Delta State governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan, to
be watchful so that the APC won’t be successful in its attempt to set
Islamic programs on Nigerians.
After
delivering his sermon, Okonkwo then pleaded with the governor to assist
the church in implementing some of its developmental projects.
The governor in turn donated N10 million towards the completion of a building project within the church grounds.

APC alleges plan by PDP to disrupt Buhari’s rally

Ado Ekiti - A plot by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti state to disrupt the campaign rally for Muhammadu Buhari, slated for January 14 in Ado-Ekiti has been uncovered, reports Vanguard.
The plot was uncovered by the Ekiti State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Taiwo Olatubosun, the state Publicity Secretary of the party, said the PDP plans to use fake soldiers imported from neighbouring countries to unleash terror on APC members and supporters before and during the campaign rally.
The fake soldiers will be mixed with local miscreants to cause the harm.
The miscreants, according to Olatunbosun, will help identify APC members and their supporters to be attacked at check points.

Jonathan, Obasanjo meet to mend fences

Abeokuta - President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday met with former
President Olusegun Obasanjo in his Hilltop residence in Abeokuta,
reports Vanguard.
The meeting, which lasted for over two hours, centered on Jonathan’s re-election bid.
The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye and the founder, Living Faith Ministry(Winners chapel), Bishop David Oyedepo, were also at the meeting.
The men of God were called to be witnesses of what would transpire between Jonathan and Obasanjo.
President Jonathan and Obasanjo have been working at cross purposes since Jonathan indicated his interest to stand for re-election.

Jonathan sends condolences to terror-stricken Borno

Abuja - President Goodluck Jonathan has conveyed his sympathies and condolences to the people of Borno State following the continuous killing of civilians by the Boko Haram insurgents.
Minister of State of State for Power, Mohammed Wakil, conveyed the message on behalf of Jonathan.
Wakil said the federal government was resolute more than ever to tame the insurgency which had become a problem to the nation.
The minister said the Presidency was deeply worried by the spate of killings including the Baga killings reported to have claimed thousands of lives.
He added that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was most saddened by the Boko Haram insurgency, which claimed many lives in the North East.
“I bring the condolence and grief of Mr President to the good people of Borno. We were all in pain going by the unrestrained savagery unleashed on our people by the sect. We are in sorrow going by the international dimension involved in the insurgency, Mr President conveyed his condolences,” said Wakil.
Wakil also disclosed that the Goodluck Jonathan administration was reviewing and enhancing its counter terrorism plan with a view to tame the insurgency.
He said the distribution of Permanent Voters Cards should not foreclose the pains of the people, adding that federal agencies are under direct instruction of Mr. President to provide food, water and bedding materials for the internally displaced persons.
“Politicians should know we are in a war situation. Our kith and kin are under stress and pain, PVC is important but I must say the welfare of our people is very paramount in our heart as PDP leaders. We will do our very best to bring this insurgency to an end,” Wakil pledged.
He assured Borno people that Federal Government would collaborate with PDP stakeholders as a way to fast track rehabilitation of the displaced and "militarily and politically" put an end to the insurgency.
“We are pursuing a plan that will create close rapport between the state and the Federal Government. Our people will feel the presence of both levels of government so that real development will occur and by Allah’s grace, peace and development will return to our state,” the minister said.
Thousands have died from the terror onslaught and scores more displaced.

Northern economy is ruined! - Bauchi governor

Bauchi - Governor Isa Yuguda of Bauchi state said on Monday that
the economy of the Northern region has been shattered by the activities
of insurgents.
Yuguda made the assertion in Bauchi while declaring open a one-day workshop organised by Arewa Youth Forum for youth volunteers from the region.
"Your economy is finished, as we have lost the peace and security which are the two indices for economic development.
"Coupled with the most corrupt attitudes of the people of the area precipitated by killings and unnecessary spilling of blood in the struggle to grab positions.
"These are people that cannot obey simple traffic rules and join queue when situation calls for such," Yuguda said.

He said that the region had been traumatised to the extent that job creation and investments that would engage or empower the youth and major population of the people have been ruined.
However, Yuguda hinted that the Federal Government has set up a committee to address problems associated with cattle routes, especially the Ilorin to Lagos, Otukpo to Port Harcourt, Maiduguri to Lokoja gazetted cattle routes.
He emphasised that the taking over of gazetted cattle routes by farmers were some of the major crises bedevilling herdsmen and farmers in the country.
The governor stressed that the future of the youth is being threatened and you need to rebuild the old bridges that united your people in the north together.

Hoodlums attack APC, APGA offices in Ebonyi

Abakaliki - Suspected hoodlums have attacked the offices of All Progressives Congress (APC) and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Ebonyi State, reports Punch.
The APC office, which is a few metres from the Government House and the headquarters of the police command, also serves as the campaign office of the governorship candidate of the party in the state, Senator Julius Ucha.
The office was attacked by thugs with objects suspected to be Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

The APGA office in Ohaukwu Local Government was attacked by gunmen said to be wearing police uniform.
The gunmen did not spare supporters of the party as their houses were also vandalized.

Elections may not hold in Borno, Yobe

Abuja - Unless there is a significant improvement in the security situation in the Northeast, the February general elections may not take place in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa States, reports Premium Times.
Kayode Idowu, Chief Press Secretary to the Independent National Electoral Commssion (INEC) Chairman, Attahiru Jega, said unless the security agencies guarantee the security and safety of its staff, ad-hoc and permanent, elections will not hold in the three states.
He denied reports that the commission has already decided not to hold elections in the three states.

He noted that the commission is working hard the security agencies to make sure elections hold in the troubled states.
