Abuja - Seattle
Sounders marksman Obafemi Martins could return to the treatment table, few days
after he was passed fit following nose surgery.
The former Nigeria international was reinstated to the starting line-up on
Wednesday morning when Sounders took on Portland Timbers in the US Open Cup.
In
the 85th minute and with both teams level at 1 - 1, the
Seattle Sounders number nine had to stretchered off into an ambulance
after colliding
with a Portland Timbers player.
Coach of the CenturyLink Field outfit, Sigi Schmid, had already used all his
three substitutes, meaning they had to play the last five minutes two - man
short as the referee had dismissed Brad Evans 16 minutes before the incident
involving Martins.
''It's in the groin area. "Is it an adductor? Is it a groin? We don't know,'' said manager Sigi Schmid.
Obafemi Martins will undergo an MRI examination on Wednesday to determine the
extent of damage.
The 30-year-old has scored 8 goals across all competitions so far this
season, including his 79th minute strike against Timbers in the Cup.
