PDP suffers defections blow in Edo State

Abuja - More than 3 000 members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, among them the Security Chief of President Goodluck Jonathan’s Campaign in the state, have reportedly decamped to the All Progressive Congress (APC).

This publication established that Fred Ikhuebor, the security chief, Sunny Erhengbo, Friday Omokaro, John Ogbomo and Lucky Akalede were among prominent members of the ruling party that decamped to the main opposition.

Ikhuebor said APC was the only party in Nigeria practicing what was obtained in advanced countries.
“The Peoples Democratic Party is a party of liars. There is no truth in them. We will join forces with you sir to deliver Edo State for APC in the Presidential elections and all the other elections,” he said.

He apologised to the state governor, Adams Oshiomhole, for his ignoble role in the Edo State House of Assembly saga of 2014 and the activities within the court premises during the election tribunal sittings in Benin City in 2012.

“I now know the truth and I have decided to come back home, join the APC and play genuine politics,” he said.

Ikhuebor pledged on behalf of his supporters, their unalloyed loyalty to the governor and the APC hierarchy in the state.

Oshiomhole expressed gratitude to all those who had defected to APC
“With the re-injection of these men of timber and calibre, there is no question that APC is now waxing stronger. Let me assure you that Edo State Government will continue to work for the people of this great state even if the cost of crude oil in the world market becomes $1 dollar. As the saying goes, 'if there is a will, there is a way',” he said.

PDP had not commented on the reports.
