Akure - The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State Command, says it has sealed 10 filling stations for failing to sell petrol at the new pump price of N87.

Coalition urges enforcement of N87 petrol price
015-01-22 13:56
Abuja - The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations has urged petroleum price regulating agencies to enforce the new pump price of N87 per litre of Premium Motor Spirit.
The Federal Government, on January 18, announced a reduction in the price of petrol from N97 to N87 per litre.
The organisations, led by Tosin Adeyanju, who is also the Executive Director of Conscience Nigeria, made the call at a rally organised by the organisation on Wednesday in Abuja.
He commended President Goodluck Jonathan for reducing the pump price to N87 per litre.
He said the decision was a show of love to Nigerians at the time of need.
He added that since 1999, this is the first time that the price of fuel will be reduced with N10 difference.
He expressed hope that the President in subsequent months would further reduce the price in line with global market when the need arose.
"It is also to let the president know that civil society organisations in Nigeria support him in the forthcoming election,’’ Adeyanju said.
He advised politicians not to make the February elections a do-or-die affair but to see politics as service to the people.
"If you see politics as service to people, losing an election will be taken in good faith,’’ he said.
He urged Nigerian youths not to allow themselves to be used by politicians as tools for violence in the elections.
Julie Egele, a member of the group, urged Nigerians to vote for President Goodluck Jonathan in the election.
Egele said Jonathan had performed well to deserve a second term.
She said one of such achievements was the making of the Abuja-Lokoja road as a dual carriageway, which she described as horrible before the construction by the Jonathan administration.

Under threat for supporting PDP - Governor
Lagos- Governor Sule Lamido has stated that, he is against the
threats that are coming from the All Progressives Congress (APC) for
those supporting the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), reports Naij.
Following the attacks on the PDP, the governor has stated that threats are being thrown around to scare the ruling party. However, reports have suggested that the governor has stated that the threats deriving from the APC, is the beginning of the defeat of the opposing party.
He urges the PDP to maintain its mandate, and claimed that Buhari’s plans would backfire. He added that though the APC’s Buhari calls APD’s supporters “infidels” the governor assured that he is not intimidated.
He concluded by stating that Buhari is the only person making the APC worthy of being called a party, though the governor said that it would be a mistake to vote for Buhari, as the APC’s presidential runner, does not believe in democracy.

Suicide attack kills seven north of Baghdad
2015-01-22 18:15
Baghdad - A suicide attack in the Taji area, north of the Iraqi capital, killed at least seven people and wounded 17 on Thursday, security and medical officials said.
It was not immediately clear if the target was the area's sprawling military base or an entrance to Taji itself, and the number of suicide bombers was unknown.
US military trainers are based at Taji, helping to instruct some 1,600 Iraqi soldiers in a six-week programme aimed at readying them to face the Islamic State (IS) jihadist group.
There was no immediate claim for the attack, but suicide bombings are a tactic almost exclusively employed by Sunni extremist groups in Iraq, including IS.
IS spearheaded a June offensive that overran much of Iraq's Sunni Arab heartland, sweeping security forces aside.
Iraqi troops, Kurdish forces, Shiite militias and Sunni tribesmen have since retaken some areas but the jihadists still holds significant territory, including three major cities.
A US-led coalition is carrying out air strikes against IS as well as advising and training both Iraqi federal and Kurdish forces.
