Wellington - Flying Eagles coach Manu Garba is putting his team
in the right state of mind ahead of the FIFA U20 World Cup Round of 16
fixture against Germany on Thursday.
Germany are not only the
joint second-best defence in the competition behind Ukraine, having only
conceded once, but they are the runaway leading scorers, with an
impressive 16 goals from three games.
Garba, who led Nigeria’s U17 team to win the World Cup in the United Arab Emirates in 2013, is confident of his wards.
"If we want to be champions, we have to be ready to take on any team. We have the tools to match them."
Goalkeeper
Joshua Enaholo, who was miserable in the 4-2 loss to Brazil, but now
improved, agreed with Garba that they are ready for Germany.
"They're a good team, but we'll be ready," Enaholo told FIFA.

Mexico's ruling party wins Congress election
18:21 08/06/2015
Mexico City - Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto's party won congressional elections on Sunday, retaining its simple majority despite protests and falling approval ratings, according to preliminary results.
The Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) is expected to win between 29.87 and 30.85% of the ballots, followed by the conservative National Action Party with 21.47-22.7%, said National Electoral Institute president Lorenzo Cordova.
The result would leave the PRI with between 196 and 203 seats in the 500-member lower chamber of Congress, fewer than the current 207 it won in the 2012 elections.
But its Green Party ally is tipped to increase its representation after securing around seven percent of the vote, resulting in 41 to 48 seats. Another ally, the New Alliance, would get nine to 12 seats.
The biggest loser is the leftist Democratic Revolution Party (PRD), which fell from 18.4% in 2012 to around 11-12% on Sunday.
The PRD has been hit by infighting. Two-time presidential candidate Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador formed his own party, Morena, which won around nine percent of the vote.
The party has also struggled since a PRD mayor was arrested and accused of ordering police in the Guerrero state town of Iguala to confront college students last year.
Prosecutors say the officers abducted 43 students and handed them over to a drug gang, which slaughtered them.

We will do better than our predecessors , says Ekiti Speaker

Ado-Ekiti - The Speaker, Ekiti State House of Assembly, Mr
Kola Oluwawole, says the legislative house under his leadership will do
better than the past four assemblies in the state.
Oluwawole spoke at the prayer session organised for the lawmakers to kick start the fifth assembly in Ado-Ekiti on Monday.
He said that the new assembly would achieve development and growth for Ekiti State, through robust legislation and meaningful collaboration with the Executive arm of government.
The speaker charged the people of Ekiti, especially professionals, to be involved by assisting the new house through sponsorship of private bills.
“I want to implore our people, especially the professionals in the state, and our sons and daughters across the country, to sponsor private bills.
“I want to let everyone know that the duty of law making is not what the lawmakers alone can do, that’s why we are soliciting the support of our people.
“We appeal to them to quickly challenge us whenever they think we are not doing well; we shall strive to do our best, but we still need their support and advice, ” he said.
The Deputy Speaker, Mr Olusegun Adewumi, called on members of staff of the assembly to shun partisan politics in order to give room for development in the state.
"We know that you members of staff must have sympathy for one political party or the other, we do not want this to override the objective and letters of your jobs.
"For every government to be successful, the civil servants must work in consonance with their oaths of office. Regardless of your political affiliation, do not be partisan.
"When workers are not partisan, then, they can do things objectively to bring about the desired development, " Adewumi said.
In his own message to the lawmakers, the Chaplain in-charge of Government House Chapel, Mr Seyi Olusola, charged them to be thankful to God Almighty for the privilege given to them.
He said that they must see their emergence as divine enthronement and admonished them not to disappoint their Creator and the people who elected them.
The members of staff of the State Assembly expressed happiness that they were resuming in peace after a long vacation.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mr Yemi Ayeni and Mrs Arinola Adeniyi, spoke on behalf of the members of staff.
They commended Gov. Ayo Fayose for the mature way he handled the political tussle with the 19 All Progressives Congress lawmakers of the last assembly.

68 people found in shipping container at UK port
10:11 05/06/2015
London - British emergency services said Friday they had found 68 people locked in a container at a port in southeast England, including two pregnant women.
Seven people, including the women, were taken to hospital but none are in a serious condition, according to a statement from the East of England Ambulance Service.
Emergency services were called to Harwich International Port, which is mainly used by ferries to the Netherlands, shortly after 10:00 pm on Thursday evening.
"A total of 68 people were assessed at the scene with seven being taken to Colchester General Hospital for further assessments and care," the ambulance service said.
"The patients who were taken to hospital were suffering from abdominal and chest pains and were feeling faint. None are in a life-threatening or serious condition.
"The remaining 61 were released to the UK Border Agency officials."
The ambulance service spokesman said the container was thought to have come from the Netherlands, and the people inside comprised of a range of different nationalities.
Thousands of migrants enter Britain illegally each year on lorries crossing from the French port of Calais to Dover on the southern English coast, but rarely in shipping containers.

Indian army launches hunt for militants after 20 soldiers killed
11:11 05/06/2015
Guwahati - India's army launched an operation in the northeastern state of Manipur on Friday to hunt tribal separatist guerrillas who killed at least 20 soldiers in the deadliest attack on security forces in the state in more than two decades.
The operation involves hundreds of soldiers on foot with the support of helicopters in the remote mountainous forests close to the border with Myanmar, where insurgents are demanding autonomy for their tribal groups or independence, army and intelligence officers told Reuters.
The central government asked the army to "trace and eliminate the insurgents" involved in the attack, a military commander said, asking not to be identified because he is not authorised to speak to the media.
As in much of India's remote and underdeveloped northeast, Manipur has been the scene of recurring strife between ethnic and religious groups since independence from British rule in 1947.
Manipur is one of seven northeastern provinces attached to the rest of the India by a thin strip of territory arching above Bangladesh. In culture and appearance, its people have more similarities with Southeast Asia than mainland India.
About 2,000 people have been killed in the violence in Manipur over the last decade, according to the South Asian Terrorism Portal.
A senior intelligence officer said about 50 tribal guerrillas were involved in the ambush of the three-vehicle convoy on a narrow road on a remote hillside about 100 km (60 miles) from the state capital, Imphal, on Thursday.
The militants fired rocket-propelled grenades, detonated improvised explosive devices and peppered the trucks with machine guns, army officials said. Two of the military trucks carrying soldiers caught fire.
The militants may have escaped across a porous border to hideouts in Myanmar, a trek of at least four hours through thick forest from the site of the attack, according to intelligence officers.
Three rebels groups active in the area, the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Khaplang faction), Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup and Kangleipak Communist Party, claimed responsibility for the attack.
Recently several rebels groups from the region formed a unified group named United National Liberation Front of Western South East Asia.
"Generally, violence in Manipur is on the downward trend," said Ajai Sahni, executive director of the Institute for Conflict Management in New Delhi. "But this is a reminder well-armed groups, which are reasonably well coordinated, are able to carry out opportunistic attacks."
