The Immediate past Commissioner for Information in Abia State, Chief Eze Chikamnayo has announced the adoption by the 4 major political Parties in the state, of former Governor of Abia and PPA candidate in the Abia North Senatorial election rerun, Dr. Orji as a consensus candidate. Chikamnayo made the announcement yesterday at Arochukwu LGA during the flag-off of ward to ward Campaign by Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu. The former commission, said that the four political parties arrived at the decision after due consultations and appraisal of all the personalities in the race. In his words, “The Abia North election is not an election for Parties, but individuals. We need a man who can stand not just for Abia North but Ndi Igbo. We need a strong voice in the Senate, and Chief Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu represents all the qualities Ndi Igbo need for the job.”

“All the parties in Abia North have resolved to support Kalu for his Senate bid because of what he did when he was governor of the state. Despite the fact that the Arochukwu Road is a federal road, when OUK wanted to reconstruct the road, it was your son, Mao who stalled it, and could not himself cause the Federal Government to re-build the road. Therefore, your son was a complete failure and deserves no other opportunity.”

Some women leaders who spoke at the rally, including 78-year-old Nwannediya Nwosu, Dame Bassie Okereke (National patron Nzuko Aro(women wing) )and Princess Monica Uche, all attested to the goodness of Kalu when he was governor.

They recalled how they benefitted from the free education and free healthcare of the former governor which they said was the reason they are supporting him despite the fact they are in different political parties.
Recall that INEC had earlier disqualified the APGA Candidate Chief David Ogba from participating in the rerun.

Antigraft controversy: Panic as Senate summons Attorney General over Abduction of Kashamu

Antigraft controversy: Panic as Senate summons Attorney General over Abduction of Kashamu

Emerging reports suggests that the Attorney General and minister of justice, Abubakar Malami, would be invited by the Senate.

Sources say the Parliament on Wednesday, February 3, resolved to invite the AGF over alleged fresh plot to kidnap Senator Buruji Kashamu and ship him to the United States to face trial on alleged drug charges.
The Senate committee on ethics, privileges and public petitions invited Malami following a petition to it by Kashamu through his solicitor Ajibola Oluyede.

Senator Kashamu and Oluyede appeared before the committee on Wednesday to defend and throw more light on the petition.

Oluyede who spoke on behalf of Kashamu at the hearing said that the fresh plot to abduct Kashamu by unknown agents was revealed to them through a text message by an informant in the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

He noted that the plot was to kidnap Kashamu or if abduction failed to shoot him.

According to The Nation, Oluyede said that their suspicion is that some interested parties in the office of the Attorney General of the Federation might have been perjured to facilitate the abduction of Kashamu to the US.
He noted that the text massage was so credible that they have no alternative than to seek protection from the Senate.
A member of the committee, Senator Bala Ibn Na’Allah wondered why those after Kashamu would want to shoot when a dead man could not be brought to face justice.
He also said that allegation that Kashamu operates a drug factory does not add up since factories could be identified.
Senator Buruji Kashamu
Na’Allah noted that it looks as if there is internal conspiracy in the NDLEA if an officer could send such a message about the office he works.
He suggested that since the office of the Attorney General had been linked with the alleged plot to abduct Kashamu, the option left for the committee is to invite Malami to state the position of his office on the matter.
Other members of the committee agreed.
Chairman of the committee, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, said that the Attorney General had already written the committee seeking a date within the month to appear before the committee on the issue.
Oluyede later told reporters that: “Recently it came to our attention that there were moves again, not to extradite him (Kashamu), but as the United States Government has a policy of rendition, rendition is forbidden by international law.
“It is also even a criminal Act under the US law but the US Government does it and the Supreme Court of United States more or less allows it by saying that well if you come to our country illegally, it doesn’t matter to us, so long as you are here, we have jurisdiction over you and we will try you on any offence for which you are brought here.
“So, on that basis the American security agencies often kidnap people and take them to the US to face what they call justice.
“Most of the time they have only done it in what they call enemy territory and only against terrorists.
“We have had only one instance in Nigeria where they have done rendition and that is against a motor dealer here, who was carried suddenly and exported to United States, Lanre Shittu.
“Now this is what is being planned currently against Senator Kashamu and we have it on very good authority and you will see we have quoted from an agent of the NDLEA, a sympathetic agent.
“He was even among those who were sitting in his bedroom with guns and wearing masks for six days.
“There were some of them who were giving us information and till today, there are still people in the NDLEA who have conscience.
“When they see any bad thing going on they want to be whistle blowers but we know there is a problem with being a whistle blower in Nigeria.
“Unless Nigeria enacts a law that protects whistle blowers it will be difficult to really hold on to some of our public officers who are actually criminals who should not be in public office at all and that is why we are relying on information given to us by this informant and we have quoted that text that that is the plan.
“Mr. Ahmed Giade was the chairman of the NDLEA at the time they invaded his house the first time to export him, the unsuccessful attempt.”

Oluyede claimed Giade has been “meeting with them and even the office of Attorney General has told us that they warned him to stop.”
“They wrote a letter and that letter is also in the bundle, telling NDLEA, we have this case in court you should not take any further step, don’t meet with the US officials anymore but the ambassador of the US came out unwittingly, voluntarily he told a newspaper that he is still meeting with Nigerian government officials for the purpose of the rendition of senator Kashamu.”
He continued saying:  “The only government official he could be meeting with is NDLEA officials and that is why we take this text very serious and now knowing this we have made further inquiries and  we have found out that is true because even  after Giade retired in December from NDLEA  his backers still got him into government.
“He is almost 80 years old he should be in his village but his backers smuggled him into government as Special Assistant to the Attorney General on Narcotics.
“This gives him a supervisory power over NDLEA even after removing him as chairman. He is still in control of NDLEA because the office of the Attorney General is the supervisory authority over NDLEA and it is in that capacity now.
“He is at the centre of this move to carry out the rendition of senator Kashamu and there are many more information that are contained in the document.
“The reason we are here is that the Senate should be able to look into this matter.

“Yes, there are certain aspects of this matter pending in court but there are aspects of it that the court can never look at.
“The court is not going to look into the internal workings of a government institution and find out whether those who have been appointed to hold office in that institution have carried out their duties in accordance with their remit or in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal  Republic of  Nigeria and the court  is not going to find out whether currently under the influence of a foreign power for the purpose  of  abducting, kidnapping  a senator , nobody is going to carry out  that investigation.
“It is only this hallowed chamber that has the supervisory power  to look  into what the executive is doing  and find out whether the executive is actually complying either  with the statutes that emanates  from this chambers or even  with the constitution and you have the power to do that, to call people to order and say this is wrong.
“You have the power to recommend to the president and say this officer who is in government is not operating appropriately and he ought to be dealt with.
“The courts cannot do that, the courts cannot usurp the function of the legislature and the legislature cannot usurp the function of the court. We humbly appeal to you to take the appropriate action in this matter.”
Oluyede said that a former Attorney General of the Federation was part of the conspiracy to abduct Kashamu.
Anyanwu said: “We have heard his case and we have asked questions. Having heard from you  the Solicitor to Senator Kashamu, you may now leave and be rest assured that the committee has heard you and we  will hear from the other correspondents  and we will come up with a position on this issue.
“Meanwhile I think it is obvious that when we make our investigation we will put down our report to the entire senate
“We have to invite the parties involved and not in representative capacity to answer to the allegations.
“This allegation concerns Giade and whatever the senate will arrive at he is equally going to be affected by it so it only fair that we hear from him.
“This matter is before the senate and we think status quo should remain until we look at the issues in the petition and come up with a position.
Kashamu recently had a day of pomp and celebration in Ijebu Igbo, Ogun state where he threw a party for his supporters, following the verdict of a Court of Appel which dismissed the tribunal judgment that nullified his election as Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial district.
There have been claims that the PDP lawmaker has been trying to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), based on a statement in praise of the antigraft war by President Buhari, however, the Senator said he was not supporting the war because he planned to defect from the PDP, but because it is in the best interest of the Nigerian people.
It would be recalled that the Federal High Court in Lagos state on Tuesday, December 1, 2015, granted an order of perpetual injunction restraining the attorney general of the federation and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) from taking over the properties of the embattled Senator Kashamu

BREAKING! Biafra: Militants Free Hijacked Ship, Hold 5 Crew Members Hostage; Insist on Kanu’s Release

BREAKING! Biafra: Militants Free Hijacked Ship, Hold 5 Crew Members Hostage; Insist on Kanu’s ReleaseNiger Delta Militant hostages

The navy of Benin is guarding a Greek-owned oil tanker hijacked by Nigerian militants who are holding five crew members hostage in Nigeria, a Nigerian agency that issues government statements and a shipping security expert said Wednesday.

The Liberian-flagged MT Leon Dias is anchored off Cotonou, Benin’s commercial capital, PR Nigeria agency reported. It gave no other details and no news of the crew and hijackers.

The hijackers disembarked from the vessel on Sunday and took five hostages with them — the captain, chief engineer, third engineer, the electrician and a fitter, said Dirk Steffen, maritime security director of Denmark-based Risk Intelligence. The ship then sailed to Cotonou, he told The Associated Press.
Owner Leon Shipping and Trading in Athens did not answer requests for comment.
Earlier Nigerian officers said the vessel was hijacked Friday by separatists threatening to blow it up with its crew unless officials release Nnamdi Kanu, the director of the banned Radio Biafra who is accused of terrorism.

SHOCKING CIRCUMSTANCES BEHIND JONATHAN’S BIRTH, MOTHER REVEAL

SHOCKING CIRCUMSTANCES BEHIND JONATHAN’S BIRTH, MOTHER REVEALS

Ex-president Goodluck Jonathan and wife, Dame Patience Jonathan with Mrs Eunice Jonathan (middle).
In a rather emotional manner, mother of Nigeria’s former president, Goodluck Jonathan, has explained the circumstances surrounding his birth and the kind of child he was while growing up.

The mother, Mrs Eunice Aye Jonathan(nee Afeni), according to dawn-to-dusk news, regularly attended religious activities with him as the Nigerian president.

As a devout Anglican, it is on record that unless she was ill, Mrs Jonathan swept the Anglican Church in Otuoke (Jonathan’s hometown in Bayelsa State) every day for 30 years from when she became a Christian in 1976.
Of all her children, only ex-president Goodluck and his elder sister, Obebatein.
In the former president’s authorised biography titled ‘Wind Of Hope’, Madam Eunice said: “I often had prolonged labour during childbirth, sometimes for up to a week, and because of this, I usually had still-births. But when it was the turn of Goodluck, I delivered him the very day I started having labour pains.
“Only God knows how he created Azikiwe. He is unique. He was an exceptional child. When he was growing up, he never refused to go on any errand. He was so helpful to us his parents. Before he went to primary school and whenever he was holidays, he would accompany me to the farm, or

PST FADARE OF REDEEMED CHRISTIAN CHURCH OF GOD IN PRISON OVER N100M FRAUD

PST FADARE OF REDEEMED CHRISTIAN CHURCH OF GOD IN PRISON OVER N100M FRAUD

The Bishop of Maranatha Church, Jonas Katung, and the managing director of Dadin Kowa Microfinance Bank Limited, Irmiya Jatau, have been remanded in prison for defrauding hundreds of depositors.

The Punch reports that a Federal High Court sitting in Jos, the Plateau state capital, ordered the prison remand of the suspects on Wednesday, February 3.

Joined with them in the charge are Dadin Kowa Microfinance Bank Limited and one Okewole Dayo.
In one of 24 counts filed against the accused, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alleged that the accused conspired to defraud over 64,000 customers of the defunct Covenant Fadama Cooperative Society to the tune of N11.5 bn.

When Justice Musa Kurya read the charges to them, all the accused persons pleaded not guilty, except Bishop Katung, who pleaded guilty to one of the counts. However, he suddenly changed his mind and pleaded not guilty like others.

Katung had been earlier granted bail before the case was adjourned till Wednesday.

L. P. Asor, the EFCC prosecutor, said that Jatau was not covered by the bail application earlier granted to the accused people because no charge was preferred against him. He added that the charges against the bank MD were only filed two days before.

Opposing the bail application, Asor argued that the bail granted to the bishop should also apply to the bank MD since he is one of the co-accused people in the case.

After hearing the argument from the defence and prosecution counsels, the judge ruled in favour of the prosecution and ordered that Jatau be remanded in prison.

The case was adjourned till March 7 for further hearing.

Another Man of God, Pastor Felix Olu Fadare of the Redeemed Christian church of God was involved in the N100m land fraud scam.

Fadare was apprehended by operatives of the Special Fraud Unit and arraigned before Igbosere magistrates court.

Apart from that, the suspects were accused of transferring the sum of N50m from Covenant Fadama Cooperative Society into the Dadin Kowa Microfinance.

WIKE’S VICTORY : APC CALLS FOR PROBE ON SUPREME COURT JUSTICES

WIKE’S VICTORY : APC CALLS FOR PROBE ON SUPREME COURT JUSTICES

John Odigie-Oyegun, the national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress has called for the investigation of Supreme Court judges.
File photo of APC national chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun

He made the call against the backdrop of his party’s loss of Rivers state governorship seat to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.

The Supreme Court has last week affirmed the electoral victory of Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state and dismissed the suit of the APC governorship candidate, Dakuku Peterside who had urged the court to upturn the victory of the APC.

The APC chief said this when he received a delegation of the party from the state led by Peterside where he expressed shock over the verdict of the Supreme Court saying: “something fundamentally wrong in the judiciary.”

Commenting on the request of the delegation to meet with president Muhamamdu Buhari,Oyegun promised to arrange a meeting between the president and members of the Rivers APC to address the state of the party, Vanguard reports.

He said: “The APC National leadership has not neglected party leaders and supporters in Rivers State. The state has always been in the front burner of discussion and decision in the party. There is obviously something fundamentally wrong in Rivers State which needs to be investigated and addressed.

“Your visit has had a sober effect on me. This meeting will kickstart urgent actions to address what went wrong. As of today, there is an attempt being made by INEC to bar us from elections in Anambra and other states. We must address these issues. I still find the judgement  on the Rivers State governorship election totally astonishing. There is something fundamentally wrong in the judiciary.
“We have lost very important resource-rich states to the PDP. No matter how crude oil prices have fallen, it is still the most important revenue earner for the country.

“I will take up your request to facilitate a meeting with the President. We will do that as soon as possible and also make it clear that there are problems which as a party, we must address.”

Malaga confirm signing of Ikechukwu Uche

Malaga confirm signing of Ikechukwu Uche (Igbere Son)

– Malaga confirm signing of Ikechukwu Uche
– Uche returns to Spain just months after he left Villareal
– The striker will play alongside Uruguayan Federico Ricco at the club

Super Eagles striker Ikechukwu Uche has joined to Spanish La Liga side, Malaga from Mexican side Tigres.
Uche had a relatively poor stay in Mexico as he was dogged by injuries which prompted his failure to establish himself in the starting line-up.

Ikechukwu Uche

Francesc Arnau, Malaga sports director described Ikechukwu Uche as a great player and a big contributor to his team.

According to him, Uche together with Uruguayan Federico Ricco, who also joined on the last day of the transfer, are good signings for Malaga.

“Nobody could argue the quality of Uche, we’ll give him time and enjoy what he does,” Arnau said. “He passed his medical perfectly and is ready to play. (Federico) Ricca is a valued player from Uruguay, and we believe he could be a major asset in the future for our club, both short and long term.

“He’s a left-back, aggressive, kicks the ball well and has the ambition to be a great footballer. He is growing and I hope we see him in action for a long time.

“In this aspect we gain time by bringing forward his arrival. We thought about two or three more additions, plus the two surprises we had,” he concluded.

In the same vein, West Ham have signed former Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Emenike. The 28-year-old striker joins the team on loan until the end of the season.

UAE-based Al Ain, where Emenike had been on loan, had released the striker last month after they declared his services was no longer needed as one of their three foreign players.
