Blame IBB for Nigeria’s Poor Economy – Buhari

Blame IBB for Nigeria’s Poor Economy  – BuhariBabangida-Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has blamed the poor run of Nigeria’s economy on the Structural Adjustment Programme (SAP) introduced by former Head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida.

Speaking through the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr Audu Ogbeh, Buhari condemned Nigeria’s over-reliance on crude oil, and asserted that the Structural Adjustment Programme pointed Nigerians in the wrong direction.

He advised Nigerian youths to take advantage of the oil crisis in other to diversify into Agriculture and non-oil sectors.

Ogbeh disclosed this during an exclusive interview with Channels Television in Otukpo, Benue State, at the flag off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Benue South Senatorial re-run election campaign for its candidate, Mr Daniel Onjeh.

Ogbeh also expressed concern over the high rate of unemployment among Nigerian youths with the advice that they take up opportunities being created in the agric-sector, in other to earn themselves legitimate sources of livelihood.

Gov Wike Deserted As PDP Collapses In Rivers State

The camp of Governor Nyesom Wike has become further depleted with the exit of more heavyweights of the Rivers State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of which he is the leader.

The latest Rivers PDP heavyweights who have recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) include three front line gubernatorial aspirants of PDP, Chief (Captain) Sunday Nwankwo, Chief Bekinbo Soberekon and Engr. Bekinbo Dagogo-Jack, who were allegedly rigged out by Wike during the PDP primaries.

Others include Dr. Diamond Tobin-West, Dr. Basoba Anga, Chief Tubonimi Wokoma, Hon. Daye Ojuka and Hon. Ibroma Kirchner.

APC kick-started the formal burial of PDP in Rivers State with the defection of Chief (Captain) Nwankwo, the Etche-born, Port Harcourt-based billionaire and former National Presidential Committee Member of PDP.

The oil and gas czar dumped PDP and joined APC with thousands of his supporters at a colourful ceremony held at Mba in Etche LGA of the State.

Addressing the huge crowd, Chief (Captain) Nwankwo said: “I was hitherto a financier of PDP and the backbone of the party in Mba clan but with the turn of events in the state, with Wike exhibiting inept leadership and lack of power to govern a complex state like Rivers State, I am hereby teaming up with my friend and brother, Dr. Dakuku Adol Peterside, and others that are interested in rebuilding the state in APC.
I hereby promise to channel same resources to the victory of APC and all its candidates. I, therefore, urge all my supporters in the 23 LGAs of the state to cross over to APC and ensure the success of the party in all the re-run elections in the state.”

Receiving the decampees, Rivers APC gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, reminded Etche people of the numerous roads he constructed in Etche LGA when he served as Commissioner for Works and promised to do more when he is sworn in as Governor of the State after the re-run elections.
Other APC stakeholders that witnessed the epochal event were Chief Allwell Onyesoh, former Commissioner and immediate past Chairman of Rivers State Post-Secondary Schools Board; Chief Nnamdi Okere, former Etche Council boss and immediate past Special Adviser to then Governor Rotimi Ameachi; Chief Ogbonnah Nwuke, a re-run candidate for Etche/Omuma Federal Constituency; Hon. Golden Ben Chioma, a rerun candidate for the House of Assembly seat in Etche; Chief Okey Amadi, a former Commissioner under Amaechi; Chief Ambrose Igbokwe Nwuzi, former Commissioner; and Hon. Chidi Nweke, a former Commissioner for Agriculture, among others.

In Buguma, veteran politician, Chief Bekinbo Soberekon led Dr. Diamond Tobin-West, Dr. Basoba Anga, Chief Tubonimi Wokoma, Hon. Daye Ojuka and thousands of other PDP members in Kalabari Kingdom into APC.

Rivers APC leader, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, was on hand to receive the decampees and the Senator to represent the South West Senatorial Zone; and Dr. Dawari George, the APC candidate in the re-run election for Asari-Toru/Akuku Toru Federal Constituency.

“As if the two events at Etche and Buguma were not enough damage to the burial of PDP, Akuku-Toru the home Local Government Area of Hon Dr Tammy Dagogo the immediate past Minister of Sports and Wike’s strong man formally hammered the nails on the coffin of the dying PDP in Rivers State with a carnival of praise and worship at Briggs Compound, New York City-Abonnema; the APC State Chairman, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya and APC Deputy Governorship candidate in the state, Asita Honourable Asita received Bekinbo Dagogo-Jack, governorship aspirant of the PDP who led former Lawmaker, Hon. Ibroma Kirchner and hundreds of high profile defectors from PDP,” APC said in a statement.

In the statement Rivers APC in Port Harcourt warmly welcomed the latest members of the party, congratulating them for taking the right decision at the right time.

The statement condemned Wike’s alleged threat to PDP stakeholders in reaction to the gale of defections to APC.

Wike, according to reports, summoned PDP stakeholders, threatening to go down with all who may have benefited from his administration should he fail in the re-run election.

He was reportedly to said: “I am worried over the incessant defections of many of my aides to APC in the state. Everybody is running away to APC and they expect me to stay calm and suffer the brunt alone.
It will never happen. We were in it together and we must suffer together. If they say I stole money in the Ministry of Education, I didn’t eat it alone. All of you took part. Some of you built the Almajiri schools.”

Buhari Should Beg Ngozi Okonjo Iweala

Buhari Should Beg Ngozi Okonjo Iweala Buhari-Ngozi-Okonjo-Iweala

By: Emeka Udeh
I know once most people see the title of this thread, they become Sentimental and ethnically hyperactive. But this is not about any ethnic group, religion or political party. This is about the survival of our dear nation.
I can authoritatively say that buhari and the APC have no plans for Nigeria. All they wanted is power, they have got it now and don’t know how to handle it.

President Buhari is hiding behind the fight against corruption to distract Nigerians from his lack of understanding and solutions to Nigeria’s economic problems.

Yes buhari is fighting corruption, but corruption did not start with the past administration. As a matter of fact, I am not sure any Nigerian president has been as corrupt as abacha who he called a saint(story 4 another day).

Does buhari mean well for Nigeria ?Yes . Did Gej mean well for Nigeria ? Yes.
But having a desire without a plan is like building a castle in the air. I can stay in my room and wish to go to America, if I don’t get the required information and follow the application process, I will remain in my room.

That is the situation facing PMB, he is not well informed about our economy. I strongly believe that buhari did not know the content of the budget which he presented, all he knew was the final figures.
Just like the ministerial positions were pened down by the party members who invested billions in the elections, so was the budget. Most of the funds spent in the election is to be recovered through the budget.
That was why the movie surrounding the stealing of the budget occurred. When people criticised the budget, buhari felt embarrassed and withdrew the budget, had a meeting with the APC investors, and they decided to reduce the figures that attracted criticism and move the funds to other area that would not be noticed. All they know is that the must recover their investment through the budget.

Now, the main reason why our economy did well under Gej despite the distraction from bokoharam is not just the oil price, but the policies and his economic team.

Trust me, if Gej had won the elections, things would have been tough in Nigeria but not this tough.
First there would not be the delay in appointing ministers like Buhari did. The economic team would have swung into action to attempt to cushion the effects of the coming economic sunami.

Do you know why I said buhari has no plan or solution to our problems?
1,Buhari is going out there trying to borrow money for an over inflated budget. Is it wrong to borrow? No. But not if you don’t have plans to pay.

2, there is a difference between bringing investors into your country and borrowing money. What buhari is going for is to borrow and not bring investment.

3, The reason why a business man will borrow from a bank to do business, is because he believes that what he will do with the money will generate more money, he will pay the bank and also have profit. Because Buhari and his economic team have no solutions to our economic problem, he wants to borrow without interest. This is because the money that will be borrowed will be diverted to private pockets through the budget.

It is the interest on the loan that makes a business man work round the clock. This is why buhari is going out for the Islamic bond with the UAE which I don’t know the conditions attached.

Buhari, why are you going outside Nigeria to borrow, when Nigerians are ready and willing to lend to you and the APC? Just make the bonds and treasury bills attractive, then watch Nigerians lend you as much as you want. But because most of the money that will be borrowed will end up in the pockets of the party chiefs, buhari is afraid of borrowing with interest. Because he will be forced to pay Nigerians back their money when it matures and there won’t be any money to pay, because they have shared it.

So rather than borrow from the people and pay them with interest if you are sure you have good plans to invest, the govt decides to take from the people by force by Deeping their hands into our accounts and collecting N50 from each transaction.

Buhari and the APC want to short investors out, borrow from the Arab world, and leave Nigerians in debt.

WHY DOES BUHARI NEED OKONJO IWEALA?
1, she understands our economic situation.
2, she understands the fears and desires of foreign investors
3, she can create the balance that will favour both Nigerians and foriegn investors.

Buhari and his economic team are still struggling to understand our economic challenge. Because they don’t understand, they can’t provide a solution.

Buhari and his team believe they can frustrate investors with their policies and then go out their and borrow from the west. No wonder he is going to the Arab world for non interest loan.

But will Nigeria survive without foriegn investors? No. What will happen is there will be a lot of cash for the govt officials to share, but there will be no jobs.

Our foriegn reserves will dry up and there will be hyper inflation. Naira will exchange at over 500 for a dollar.

The entire system will get messed up and we end up like Zimbabwe.

At that time, we will be on our knees begging investors and their terms will be so unfavourable for us. It is better buhari swallow his pride and beg NOI who can bring the nigerian economy and foriegn investors to a table for negotiation and get us a good deal now. If he keeps being stubborn, and messes things up real bad, there won’t be room for negotiation, we will just have to take whatever they offer.

Most Nigerians will say, to hell with foriegn investors, we can make it on our own.

With the kaduna and PH refineries shut down, Nigeria needing to import fuel and pay subsidy, importers needing forex to import. How long will it take before we run out of forex?

Then it will be 10k to a dollar and mega inflation. Buhari better swallow his pride and do the needful before he grounds this nation.

Abia Guber: INEC Rejects Appeal Court Judgment; Says Ikpeazu not Otti Won Election

Abia Guber: INEC Rejects Appeal Court Judgment; Says Ikpeazu not Otti Won Election
otti n ikpeazu

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rejected the judgment of the Court of Appeal, Owerri Division which declared Alex Otti,‎ the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) winner of the state governorship elections.

The commission has therefore asked the Supreme Court to set aside the judgment of the Court of Appeal and its place to uphold the judgment of the Abia Governorship Election Tribunal which upheld INEC’s declaration of Dr Okezie Ipeazu of the Peoples Democratic Party as winner of the election.

In a brief or argument settled by INEC’s lead counsel, Chief Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN who led a team of other senior lawyers including, Dr Livy Uzoukwu, SAN, A.B. Mahmoud, SAN, H.M. Liman, SAN, Ahmed Raji, SAN among others, the commission said that it was Ikpeazu who won the election and not Otti.

INEC informed the Supreme Court that another panel of the Court of Appeal upheld elections in respect of House of Assembly seats in Osisioma Local Government Area and Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area w‎hich took place on the same day the governorship election was conduct.

It will be recalled that in declaring Otti winner of the election, the Court nullified the governorship election in the local government areas stated above.

INEC said: “Before concluding, we crave the indulgence of the court to very respectfully refer to an intriguing issue.

“It is the fact that the court below, though differently constituted confirmed on appeal elections in respect of House of Assembly seats in Osisioma LGA and Isiala North LGA which took place simultaneously with the Abia Governorship same day, time, in the same polling units and where voters were accredited using the same voters; registers and card readers.”

INEC further said that the Court of Appeal was wrong in law when it cancelled the results of elections in three local government areas of Abia State.

It said “The conclusion that Otti and not Ikpeazu won majority of the valid votes cast at the election is neither borne out of the record nor justified under the law.”

According to the commission, the court of appeal should have dismissed Otti’s appeal‎ having found that a Returning Officer has no power to cancel election results having regard to the provisions of Section 68 (1) of the Electoral Act 2010 as amended.

‎The commission also said that Otti’s notice of appeal at court of appeal was incompetent and should have been dismissed for lack of jurisdiction.

Ikpeazu in Fresh Trouble as Supreme Court Orders That He Be Retried For Tax Fraud At The Federal High Court

kpeazu in Fresh Trouble as Supreme Court Orders That He Be Retried For Tax Fraud At The Federal High Court.

The governor of Abia state, Okezie Ikpeazu is in fresh trouble as the Nigerian Supreme Court has ordered the Federal High Court to retry the case challenging the fraudulent payment of taxes that enabled his qualification to contest the governorship election of the state.

Some of his opponents in the People’s Democratic Party led by Obasi Uba Ekagbara and Chukuemeka Mba had dragged him to the Federal High Court via suit FHC/ABJ/ CS/1086/2014 over his eligibility to contest in the primary election conducted for governorship aspirants of the party in the state during the last election in 2015. Even though he won the primary, his opponents alleged that he did not qualify to contest as he did not pay his taxes of years 2011, 2012 and 2013 as at when due.

The plaintiffs dragged Ikpeazu, the People’s Democratic Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and produced convincing evidence at the Federal High Court that taxes allegedly paid for the three years were paid on the same day and therefore faulted the authenticity of Ikpeazu’s tax clearance certificate and the information contained in his INEC “Form CF100”. Ikpeazu had no answer to the allegations but challenged the competence of the Federal High Court Abuja to hear the case. The trial court overruled his objection, but the Court of Appeal sided with him and ruled that the case ought to have been filed at the Abia State High Court.

Dissatisfied with the judgment Ikpeazu’s opponents took the matter to the Supreme Court. In its judgment handed down last Friday by five Supreme Court justices led by Justice Mohammed Muntaka -Coomassie, the court faulted the decision of the Court of Appeal and affirmed the competence of the Federal High Court Abuja to try the case. The justices then remitted the case back to the Federal High Court for the expedited trial of the tax fraud case challenging the eligibility of Ik[eazu to contest the governorship election. And to ensure that the hearing is not delayed the Supreme Court ordered the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court of Nigeria to ensure that the case is heard and determined expeditiously.

If Gov. Ikpeazu loses the pre-election case at the Federal High Court, he will be ordered to vacate the office of the governor of Abia state since he was not competent to have contested talk less of winning the election. The recent ruling shows that Ikpeazu has not been able to counter the serious allegation from his opponents that he fraudulently and criminally evaded payment of taxes to the federal government until he began running for election.

In another development, the court of appeal, sitting in Owerri has ruled that it was Alex Otti of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and not Ikpeazu who won the governorship election conducted in Abia state on April 11, 2015. An appeal filed by the embattled Governor is pending at the Supreme Court for adjudication. If Ikpeazu loses at the Supreme Court, he would also be forced to vacate office.

Buhari Reportedly Seeks Deal With Dasuki

Following the ongoing investigation into $2bn arms scandal the presidency is reportedly seeking the settlement with former National Security Adviser Sambo Dasuki.
Sambo Dasuki after the court.

New Telegraph reports that the talks with the government is at the example of high level politicians, including retired generals, with the pledge to get the beneficiaries return the looted funds to government’s reserves.
According to the source the peace initiative was as a result of shocking revelation that charged prominent Nigerians and officials of the Buhari government who were beneficiaries of the security fund.

The source said: “Discussions are going on between the parties. The revelation that has come out so far are just a tip of the iceberg.

“If Dasuki is allowed to release documents about the beneficiaries of arms deal and security fund, the country will be in crisis.”

“Dasuki has threatened to open up on the arms deal. “This is why he demanded for an open trial.”
“With open trial, the whole world would know that so many people were involved in the arms deal.”
Dasuki reportedly has compiled the list of recipients of the fund with documentary proof comprising bank transactions, receipts, video and audio recordings of the transaction before the talks.

“The gravity of the evidence and those involved in the arms deal necessitated the peace moves. The discussion is to douse the tension because if Dasuki opens up, the Buhari presidency would be embarrassed by the revelations,” the source close to Dasuki said.

Those managing the deal met with President Buhari to see how the matter could be settled without mounting the tension already stirred with the arms purchase scandal.

One of the conditions of agreement, according to the source, is that former NSA should be given bail.
The negotiation is what we expected ex-president Goodluck Jonathan to have done. We learnt that he is also reaching out to the president,” the source said.

However, the presidential spokesperson Mallam Garba Shehu, could not confirm the current peace talks.
“I don’t have the information now,” he said.

“Even, some famous leaders across the North-South divide benefitted from the fund,” the other source said. He added though money was transferred to the accounts of the beneficiaries, others who collected cash signed for what they got.

Ex-minister of state for finance, Ambassador Bashir Yuguda, ex-governor of Sokoto state, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa and others are facing trial together with Dasuki over the $2 billion arms scandal.

Yuguda has disclosed that he gave N100 million to some leaders of the PDP, including Chief Bode George, Yerima Abdullahi, ex-governors Peter Odili and Jim Nwobodo, for the 2015 elections.

The accused people were arraigned on a 22-count charge bothering on criminal breach of trust and diversion of public fund under the pretext of purchasing security arms.

However, former NSA will today know whether he will go back home or repeatedly be imprisoned in the custody of the EFCC.

Biafra Passport Not Valid – US, UK

Biafra Passport Not Valid – US, UK

The agitation for the recognition for an independent Biafra state took a disappointing dip as the United States (US) and United Kingdom (UK) revealed that they do not accept the Biafran passport because the supposed independent country is not recognised.

The Movement for the Actualisation of a Sovereign State Of Biafra (MASSSOB) had insisted a fortnight ago that the Biafran passport was valid all over the world except Nigeria and urged its supposed citizens to use it to secure visa for international travel.

MASSOB through Sunny Okereafor, the national director of information explained that the travel document costs N5,000 while its renewal costs N2,000.

“I assure you that the Biafran passport is valid. Except Nigeria, other countries of the world accept Biafran passport and allow our citizens to travel with it. In Europe, North and South America, Biafran passport is accepted. Nigeria is the only country that seizes Biafran passport. Go to neighbouring Ghana here, they will stamp the passport for you. Don’t be confused by the propaganda of the Nigerian government that there is nothing like Biafra passport.

“MASSOB appeals to Biafran citizens to procure their passport and use it to travel. If you doubt me, get a Nigerian passport while I have my Biafran passport; when we get to Europe, you will see who they will welcome than the other. Many people with the Nigerian passport have been repatriated, but have you heard of anybody with Biafran passport receiving such ill-treatment?”

The Punch however reports that an inquiry into the claim made by MASSOB at the American consulate in Lagos revealed that the Biafran passport was not recognized.

Frank Sellin, the deputy public affairs officer at the consulate said “the United States does not consider passports purporting to be from a Biafra entity to be a valid legal document for purposes of visa issuance.”

Mr. Joe Abuku who is the press and public affairs officer at the British high commission in Abuja said the UK does not recognize the Biafran passport and as the country did not support the secession during the civil war and thus its stance has not changed.

“The answer is unequivocally ‘no’. The UK does not recognise the so-called Biafran passport
