Lagos - Academica de Coimbra midfielder, Obiora Nwankwo has
expressed regrets over Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2015 Africa
Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Equatorial Guinea, SuperSport reports.
Obiora
was part of Nigeria’s 2013 Afcon-winning squad in South Africa as he
put in a shift to inspire the Super Eagles to their third success at
Africa’s biggest football showpiece.
The midfielder says “mistakes
were made” and wants things put in perspective if the Super Eagles are
to rise like a Phoenix from the ashes in the coming years.
“We made mistakes and, if things must get better, everyone who
contributed (to our failure to reach the 2015 Afcon) must put his hand
up,” he told supersport.com from his base in Portugal.
The 23-year-old then admitted his frustrations watching matches at the 2015 Afcon without Nigeria.
“I
have been watching some of the games (at the 2015 Afcon) when my
schedule allows me but if I must be honest, it’s hard, very hard, to
take just watching and not participating.

Super Six tourney lights up Abuja
2015-01-21 13:35
Abuja - Rather than the annual Super Four, this year's Nigerian Premier League Preseason tournament will be a Super Six and it will kick off this weekend in Abuja, SuperSport reports.
Champions Kano Pillars are joined by first and second runner up teams, Enyimba and Warri Wolves while Confederations Cup finalists Dolphins were invited too. The fifth and sixth teams are the Nigerian Under-20 and Under-23 teams.
Made in Naija Football at last. Since the league ended in November, we have tried to distract ourselves with some footballing action going on elsewhere in the world including the African Cup of Nations which we somehow could not qualify for.
This is why for some local football lovers, this could not have come any sooner. Yes, it is only a pre season tournament and yes it is hardly a trophy to break one's head for but the reality is that football is back, our football is back. After this ten day tournament, the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederations Cup follows soon after and then shortly after our League season starts. Our football, our own football is back.

Equatorial Guinea lodges complaint
2015-01-21 13:35
Bata - Equatorial Guinea have lodged an official complaint with Africa Cup of Nations' organisers CAF claiming a conspiracy was behind their disallowed goal in the opening 1-1 draw with Congo Brazzaville.
Skipper Emilio Nsue's lob in the 74th minute was disallowed for offside by African Referee of the Year Bakary Papa Gassama from Gambia.
Television replays later showed it was a poor decision and the Equatorial Guinea football federation (Feguifut) alleged on the government's official website that this was a plan by the referee to stop the hosts from reaching the last-eight of the tournament.
The Feguifut statement said experts had reviewed the video repeatedly and suggested it should have been allowed.
"Feguifut officials have studied the video and they have listened to the views of sports experts to reach a conclusion that it was unfair and it is probably a gang-up by the referee," read the statement in part.
On Wednesday, Equatorial Guinea will take on Burkina Faso, who lost 2-0 to Gabon at the weekend, in their second Group A run-out.
