Do you enjoy a spot of male nudity?

Lagos - As a heterosexual woman who is interested in sex, I have to admit that I enjoy the sight of a naked man.

I also enjoy seeing the naked male member.

Obviously not when it’s shown to me unsolicited, or in a threatening manner (I can’t believe I actually have to state that, but some weirdos are crazy enough to see that sentence as an invitation for harassment).
Yet, for many years Western culture has somehow advocated that women find naked men, and especially their penises, and the trusty balls that go with them, gross.

While I never thought the male member was an unattractive part of a man’s body, it’s not like I was ever encouraged to think it was a part to be celebrated. We’re encouraged to find biceps and sixpacks and pectoral muscles attractive, but for many years, anything lower than the hips and higher than the calves remained hidden to our curious eyes.

In her article about society’s issue with the penis and the constant objectification and sexualisation of women’s bodies, Laura Shortridge talks about the absence of male genitalia in our media and how women are socialised to view the world from the male gaze.

It is indeed a very seldom occurrence that the female gaze is catered to, and this is a pity, because male bodies are beautiful and sexy in their own right. And wanting to admire them was pretty much what I signed up for when I realised my sexual interest was in men.
But damn it’s hard to do.

Where we have been knee-deep in naked or nearly naked female bodies for decades, the interesting bits of the male body are only recently starting to stick out their heads.

The only place where male genitalia have made a proper showing is in porn, and I don’t always want to see dick merely as a tool used for sex.

People have been coming to the party recently though. Buzzfeed started a whole thing about the male cameltoe, or moose knuckle as it is hilariously called. Jezebel did a whole feature on Disney Princes’ penises.
And you know who were the only people who complained about it? Men.
Go figure.

What do you think about the naked male body? Do we get enough of it? Or can't we get enough of it.

Minister advises Obasanjo to apologise to PDP, President Jonathan

Abuja - Dr Stephen Oru, the Minister, Niger Delta Affairs, on Tuedsay advised former President Olusegun Obasanjo to apologise to President Goodluck Jonathan and the PDP over alleged unguarded statements credited to him.
Oru made the call in Abuja at a news conference organised by the ministry.
He said that the former President was the most privileged Nigerian who had the opportunity of ruling the country twice both as military Head of State and as a democratically-elected president.
Oru expressed dismay over alleged comments credited to Obasanjo, who had served as President for two tenures on the platform of the PDP.
He said that the alleged statements were not in the interest of the unity of the country, considering his position as an elder statesman.

According to him, as an elder statesman, Obasanjo’s opinion is highly respected nationally and internationally.
Oru advised Obasanjo to emulate other respected former presidents who have humbled themselves and utilised available channels to advice government on ways to move the nation forward.
According to him, Obasanjo has not treated the PDP, the person and office of the President and Nigerians fairly.
"He still has the time to make amends and retrace his footsteps and tender an apology to the party and the nation.''
The minister observed that Jonathan had an usual gift of patience, tolerance and humility.
Obasanjo was quoted on Monday as saying that Jonathan was behind the rescheduling of the general elections because of his desperation to win the election.
He had declared publicly his resignation from the party at a meeting of his supporters in Abeokuta, where he also ordered that his PDP membership card be torn, following which his party expelled him.

Police officer killed, reporter stabbed at APC rally

Port Harcourt - One police officer has been killed, four others have been injured and a reporter covering the event was stabbed at the APC election rally.

The violence erupted at the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) meeting of governorship candidate Dakuku Peterside in Okrika, the hometown of President Goodluck Jonathan's wife Patience.
"Five police officers were shot. One of them is dead and four are lying in critical condition at this hospital," Peterside said.

Peterside and a source at the private Channels television network said its reporter at the scene, Charles Erukaa, had been stabbed and was being taken to a hospital.

Political tensions have raged in Rivers state since outgoing governor Rotimi Amaechi defected to the APC from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2013.

The war of words has been particularly fierce between Amaechi's camp and supporters of the first lady.
Critics have alleged that she sees Rivers as her personal political domain and was committed to removing the governor at any cost.

Peterside, who is Amaechi's hand-picked successor, had tried twice previously to hold a rally in Okrika but was forced to cancel on security grounds.

As supporters were gathering for Tuesday's rally at the National Secondary School, several explosions went off, Peterside told journalists.

Organisers then decided to press on with the event but gunshots from unknown assailants caused a second wave of chaos, live pictures on Channels showed.

Erukaa was forced to take cover, lying with his stomach on the ground as armed security personnel moved in the background. He was later stabbed in the leg by unidentified attackers.

Police were not immediately available to comment on the identities of the gunmen. Peterside claimed the gunmen were PDP loyalists but that claim could not be independently confirmed.
- Swing state -The National Human Rights Commission last week said 58 people had been killed in political violence in the run up to Nigeria's polls, which were initially scheduled for February 14 but have been moved to March 28 over security fears.

The commission pointed to oil-producing Rivers in the Niger Delta as a flashpoint area for potential unrest, in part because of the bitter rivalry between the APC and the first family in the state.

In the national campaign, Jonathan is facing a tough test against the APC's Muhammadu Buhari, a former military ruler, and Rivers has been identified as a key swing state.

Jonathan comes from neighbouring Bayelsa and had previously banked on massive support across the Niger Delta but Amaechi's defection to the APC has changed the political dynamics.

Losing Rivers could ruin Jonathan's re-election hopes and would likely be seen as a personal embarrassment to the first lady, who is an often criticised figure in Nigeria.

Patience Jonathan had initially suggested that the kidnapping of more than 200 schoolgirls in Chibok by Boko Haram in April last year was staged to embarrass her husband.

Later, while meeting with relatives of the hostages, she appeared to fall into a religiously inspired trance, repeatedly shouting "there is God-o!", a video of which went viral in Nigeria.

Senate President quashes interim government talk

Abuja - Senate President, David Mark, dismissed the possibility of Interim National Government (ING) in the country as reported by some opposition parties.
He expressed distress at such reports.

“I am alarmed that the issue of Interim National Government (ING) has been given undeserved prominence in our national discourse. This is imprecise sordid and strange. Interim National Government is alien to the 1999 Constitution as Amended,” Mark said.

“Therefore those calling for ING are pushing for an excise in futility. This Senate is committed to the provision of our Constitution which we swore to protect and we will not do anything to sabotage the democratic process.”

He called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to continue preparing to conduct a free, fair transparent and credible general election.

“We owe it a duty to our country men and women to give INEC all the support it needs to conduct a free, fair, transparent and credible election,” Mark said.

His sentiments come on the back of the resumption of the senate plenary on Tuesday.

Opposition firm on the use technology for elections

Abuja - The All Progressives Congress (APC) has insisted on the use of the card reader for the rescheduled general elections.

The opposition party argued the use of the reader for the polls slated for March 28 and April 11 was “non-negotiable.”

According to a communiqué issued at the end of its Joint Leadership Meeting held in Shehu Musa Yar’dua Centre Abuja, the party said the development is contrary to the alleged misinformation being disseminated that the use of card reader was not compliant with electronic voting.

“That the use of the card reader for the 28th of March and 11th of April is non-negotiable, as contrary to the misinformation being disseminated the use of card reader is not synonymous with electronic voting,” part of the communiqué signed by the party National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed read.

The party added that the reschedule election dates remained sacrosanct as the party would not tolerate any further shift

It meanwhile called for immediate and necessary disciplinary action against individuals were allegedly involved in the violation of democracy in the  Ekiti Governorship election held in June, as revealed by some media.

“Brigadier General Aliyu Momoh should be immediately investigated by the military authorities. The Hon Minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Jelili Adesiyan, should immediately be relieved of his ministerial appointment and the former Minister of State for Defence Affairs Senator Musliu Obanikoro, whose name has just been sent to the Senate for confirmation again as a minister of the Federal Republic, must not be confirmed by the Senate and must be barred henceforth from holding any public office,” urged APC.

The APC said the military should be kept away from election duties in line with the recent Court of Appeal decision.

According to APC, the Sokoto Federal High Court Judgement ruled as illegal the participation of the military in the electoral process.

“The military should be kept away from election duties henceforth,” stated APC.

Abuja - The Presidential Jobs Board is drafting a National Jobs Bill aimed at fast-tracking government's efforts toward creating two million jobs for Nigerians yearly.
The Minister of Trade and Investments, Dr Olusegun Aganga, disclosed this while briefing State House correspondents on the outcome of the Board meeting, chaired by Vice-President Namadi Sambo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Tuesday.
According to him, wide consultations are ongoing to fine-tune the draft bill before it is forwarded to the National Assembly for consideration and passage.
He said that about 1.4 million jobs were being created every year.
He, however, stated that the Board was mindful of President Goodluck Jonathan's marching orders on the Board to work with the private sector to make available minimum of two million jobs to Nigerians annually.

To this end, he said that the Board, during the meeting, brought to the attention of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) the various employment incentives put in place since 2010 for private sector employers.
"We have the employment tax incentive where you employ at least 10 employees and six out of the 10 remain employed in three years, you get the tax incentive of about five per cent of your accessible profit for that period.
"There is incentive for work experience acquisition Programme and then local raw material utilisation where you get 30 per cent tax concession for five years, to industries that attain minimum local raw materials utilization," he said.
According to Aganga, the Federal Government is setting up public job centres in all the state capitals through which job seekers could be adequately informed of available opportunities.

Open University set to open FRSC study centre

By: Augustine Osayande
2015-02-18 08:45
Abuja - The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) said it is ready to formally open a study centre at the National Headquarters of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

Officials of the University expressed satisfaction with the facilities available at the centre.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of administration of the university, Prof Nebath Tanglang, disclosed this during a visit by a team of the university to the Corps’ Headquarters in Abuja.

According to him, after considering the requirements for setting up a functional study centre run by the University, the team is satisfied the FRSC has met the set criteria.

He said the study centre will address staff’s demands for higher education.

"The centre will serve the needs not only the staff of the FRSC, but other Nigerians who are desirous of benefiting from the system," he said.

The official called on the FRSC Management to brace up to the challenges that came up with the upsurge of students from outside the FRSC by expanding the available facilities.

“From what we have seen here in the FRSC in the course of our visitation, we can confirm that there are adequate facilities on ground to meet the requirements for the setting up of a study centre run by the university,"  Tanglang said.

Corps Marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi, thanked NOUN for considering FRSC as one of its study centres in the country.

He said FRSC would do all that is possible to ensure that the centre offers the best facilities to its students.
Oyeyemi said the need for the study centre became imperative following the commitment of the management to address staff’s capacity development needs.

His vision is to see that within the next five years of opening the FRSC Study Centre, the facility would have staff who are holders of Masters and Doctorate Degrees.

"To this end, I want to assure you that we would do everything possible to support the centre so that it can become one of the best in the country," he said.
